The company is involved in waste water treatment and needs a qualified Safety Officer for a project in Mozambique, for a duration of 3 months. The successful candidate must be fluent in Portuguese.
The safety officer appointee is liable in ensuring that all employees are trained on all safety related documentation pertaining to the tasks to be completed in the construction of the Beira project.
The safety officer must ensure that all employees are appointed according to the occupation health and safety act / construction regulation 2014 / Mozambique safety laws and regulations.
The safety officer is responsible to carry out site and equipment inspections as indicated in the construction regulations and also ensure a hazard free working environment.
The safety officer Verifies that all tools and equipment are adequate and safe for use
The safety officer must ensure compliance with regards to safety documentation according to client specifications / local authorities
The safety officer will conduct job hazard analysis by ensuring that all risk assessments are conducted prior to the commencement of any works.
The safety officer will ensure that safe work method statements have been communicated to all employees and that all employees are working safe in accordance with the method statements developed for the works
The safety officer must conduct tool box talks
The safety officer reviews and all subcontractors’ safety documentation to ensure that compliance is achieved.
Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.
Oversee the reporting and investigation of all accidents and near-misses.
Oversees the safety of all workers and works to protect them from entering hazardous situations
Responds to employees safety concerns
Co-ordinates removal of hazardous waste from site
Serves as a link between Client, principle contractor and sub-contractors
Arrange induction training for employees and conduct visitor induction training
Oversee the maintenance of all records
Mobile plant inspections as well as truck and vehicle inspections.
Hazardous chemical control
Samtrac / safety diploma
Incident Investigation (Root Cause Analysis)
SACPCMP registration or proof of registration
Competence: fall arrest and working on heights
Minimum 3 years’ experience
Worked as a construction safety Officer – References essential
Experience in heavy lifting by means of crane
Drafting of safety documentation (Risk Assessments, Checklists, Inspections.etc)
Knowledge of the construction regulation / OHS Act at least the important points and legal appointments / laws and regulations governing Mozambique
Experience in working at heights (scaffolding & machines)
Knowledge of electrical safety
Knowledge of mobile equipment
Knowledge of ISO 14001 – Environmental
Knowledge of OSH 18001 – Safety
Must speak and understand Portuguese
